General Information
General Information about Your Department or Program:
- History: The Tourist Guidance department, which was established under the Department of Travel, Tourism, and Leisure Services at Iğdır Vocational School, is an associate degree program that started in the 2016-2017 academic year. The program began accepting students with a quota of 40 students in the same academic year. Our program consists of expert academicians in the field, and courses are conducted through practical projects. The aim of the Tourist Guidance program is to train qualified tourist guides for the tourism industry by offering quality education services. To achieve this, the program aims to cultivate tourist guides who possess detailed knowledge of Turkish tourism, have a deep understanding of Turkey's history, culture, and nature, are proficient in foreign languages, and are tolerant, hardworking, self-confident, and capable of providing excellent service to both domestic and international tourists.
- Department Program Outcomes: The program outcomes for the Tourist Guidance department are listed below:
- Knows the fundamental concepts and processes in the fields of tourism and guiding, and has general knowledge about the tourism industry.
- Has knowledge of Turkey's and the world's cultural and natural heritage, as well as historical riches, and is able to effectively introduce and present them.
- Speaks and writes at least one foreign language (usually English) fluently, at a level sufficient to provide professional guidance.
- Establishes effective communication with tourists, ensures customer satisfaction, and possesses crisis management skills.
- Acts in accordance with professional ethical principles and is knowledgeable about the legal regulations and rules required by the guiding profession.
- Effectively utilizes group management, tour organization, and leadership skills during the tour guiding process.
- Has the ability to plan tour routes, create an effective tour program, and implement it successfully.
- Acts in accordance with the principles of sustainable tourism and possesses environmental awareness.
- Has expertise in specialized types of tourism such as health tourism, ecotourism, cultural tourism, and gastronomic tourism.
- Follows current developments in their field, conducts research, and maintains an open attitude towards innovations.

Possesses the necessary knowledge and skills to handle emergencies that may arise during tourist guiding.
- Is proficient in the software and technologies used in tourist guiding and can utilize digital guiding applications.
- Knows the fundamental concepts and processes in the fields of tourism and guiding, and has general knowledge about the tourism industry.
- Language / Type of Instruction: The language of instruction is Turkish. Students who successfully complete all courses (totaling 120 ECTS credits) and achieve a minimum GPA of 2.00 out of 4.00 are awarded an associate's degree in Tourist Guidance.
- Infrastructure Opportunities: The Tourist Guidance program is equipped with vocational training that allows students to combine their theoretical knowledge with practical applications. Throughout the program, students have access to internship and practical opportunities to gain sectoral experience.

Exchange Programs
It offers students the opportunity to study at another university, either domestically or abroad, for a specific period of time. Through these programs, students have the chance to experience different cultures, improve their foreign language skills, and gain international academic experience. Some of the most common exchange programs include Erasmus, Mevlana, and Farabi.

Hotel and Accommodation Services
Employment Opportunities: Graduates of the Tourist Guidance program who meet the necessary requirements can obtain the title of Professional Tourist Guide. They have the option to work independently or as a professional tourist guide under the employment of a travel agency. Additionally, they can be employed in travel agencies, accommodation businesses, recreation and animation companies, congress, fair, and event organizations, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's central and provincial units, airlines, cruise ship operations, yacht and marina businesses, and online travel services.
